Those Moments before Sleep – which you’ll Never Remember…

I don’t know why the human brain allows us to conjure up
such brilliance as we fall asleep, but it does.

Keep a notebook beside your bed and use it…and the ironic thing is my quote above was scribbled into my phone on One Note almost as I fell asleep…so you truly might just capture that moment of magic.

Don’t lose those thoughts, storylines, plans and grand ideas…keep a pen and notebook by your bed, or memo app on your phone…and write them down!

Will Self said on writing:
“Always carry a notebook. And I mean always. The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper you can lose an idea for ever.”

For me, it’s the moment before awake where ideas mainly drift. I have notebooks everywhere, by my bed and in every bag. I have been known to wake in the night and write in the dark, not just because I don’t want to wake my husband, but mainly because if I switch the light on, those half-dreams will evaporate.

Oh, yes, been there, Julia! I even bought a pen with a light in the nib, and I’ve even scribbled in the dark – hard to decipher in the morning though! Now I just grab my phone and use my note app – still can be difficult to decipher atucorrect in the morning too! lol

those elusive ideas arrive when I’m about to fall asleep.
Today, while driving, I had a aha moment and promised myself I would remember. Can’t just stop the car, right? Picked and picked my brain for an hour much later in the day. This is one time I found success and scribbled everything down at once! 😀 😀

That’s so true, driving is another of those times when eureka moments hit – I get a lot of plot reveals while driving! It’s either pull over or keep repeating it until there’s a chance to pull over! For me, trying to remember it is so hard!

Trying to remember is hard for me as well. All I need to do is have a conversation with someone, look at someone coming in, or get side-tracked by a word or scratching my nose and that’s it–gone! Course I’m at that age…. 😀 😀 😀
